If you keep up with the news, or have any access to the internet at all, then you have most likely heard of the new proposed bill that the U.S. Senate will be voting on January 24th. It is the 'Stop Online Piracy Act' or SOPA for short. The law was designed to help stop the pirating of copyrighted materials such as movies and music. You might think that this doesn't sound that bad, but when you break down the law and examine exactly what actions it would put into effect should it pass, you would probably have a change of thought, unless you don't care if you have internet or not. So, let me give you the basics.
This law would require all advertisement companies to pull all adds from any website that has even the slightest hint of copyright infringement, under threat of a court order and major lawsuit. Keep in mind, that the vast majority of these websites aren't exactly broadcasting the fact that they are pirating illegal material, and go under vague domain names, so the majority of these ad companies would be an innocent bistander in this, losing revenue and eventually lead to lost jobs(just something this country needs more of right?). Search engines would be barred from having any link leading to piracy websites listed in their search database, again under threat of court order.
Websites such as youtube and other user content sites would be severely affected, seeing as they stream songs and entertainment videos constantly, so of course, all that would have to stop, which would more than guarantee a mass drop in users in those sights(my guesstimate would be in the hundreds of millions), which again would undoubtedly lead to more lost jobs and revenue by the tons of companies that pay good money to advertise their products on such highly visited sights like Youtube. On top of that, say for instance I had some link posted on my blog here, such as: thepiratebay.org (which is an actual piracy site), then this law would allow for the entire removal of the blogspot website, which includes millions of bloggers like myself, some of which earn revenue by posting ads on their page, and possibly bring legal action against said site, resulting once again, in lost jobs and revenue. I guess it's a good thing the law hasn't been passed yet or I might be in trouble for that one, haha.
All of the big name, top revenue earning websites such as: Google, Yahoo!, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, AOL, LinkedIn, eBay, Mozilla Corporation, Roblox, Reddit,[113] Wikipedia, and many more, all highly oppose this bill. These companies provide thousands of jobs to people all over the country, all of which could have their jobs threatened should the law pass, as ad companies will refuse to purchase ad space on their sites due the possible legality and liability it puts on them should someone like myself post anything copyright infringing. The majority of these big sites participated in a 12-24 blackout over the past few days in protest. There has also been several anti-SOPA rallies all over the country in the previous weeks, stating that this is blatant Internet Censorship, and a violation of our 1st Amendment rights. So, let me ask you, after hearing just that small tidbit of information, would you support a law that could possibly destroy the internet as we know it? Let me give you my perspective and thoughts and this bullshit.
IN MY OPINION, THIS RIDICULOUS PROPOSAL IS A CORRUPT, GREED INDUCED RIGHT WING PIECE OF LEGISLATURE THAT INFRINGES THE RIGHTS OF EVERY AMERICAN IN THIS COUNTRY!!!!!! IT'S SUCH A WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT DOCUMENT THAT IT WOULDN'T EVEN DESERVE TO BE USED TO WIPE MY ASS WITH!!!!! Obviously, Republican Texas Senator Lamar Smith has absolutely no knowledge whatsoever on how the the internet works, which is surprising seeing as how Texas usually produces really intelligent political figures, like George Bush, HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAH!!!!! If this moron had even the slightest computer and internet literacy skills, he would know, that this bullshit law would actually do very little to curb piracy. Sure they can block and ban these known sites, and I guess that solves the problem right..............................NOT!!!!! All these sites have to do is copy all information to a brand new website under a different IP Address, which they can do within hours, and without notice. If you think I'm just pulling information out of my ass, look it up yourself. Edward J. Black, president and CEO of the Computer & Communication Industry Association stated these facts himself in an article of the Huffington Post.
Also, HOW FUCKING GREEDY TO THE ENTERTAINMENT MILLIONAIRES OF THIS GODDAMN COUNTRY HAVE TO BE THAT THEY ARE TRULY CONCERNED ABOUT MISSING OUT ON A FEW HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS WHEN THEY ARE MAKING TENS OF MILLIONS ANNUALLY!!!!!!! YOU SELFISH PRICKS SHOULD BE GREATFULL THAT PEOPLE EVEN WANT TO DOWNLOAD YOUR MUSIC OR MOVIES!!!! THAT MEANS WE LIKE THE STUFF YOU PRODUCE!!!!!! A FEW MILLION DOWNLOADS IS NOT GOING TO AFFECT YOUR INCOME IN A WAY THAT IS GOING TO CAUSE YOU TO STOP LIVING THE ALREADY OVERPAID, OVER LAVISH LIFESTYLES YOU BASTARDS ALREADY HAVE THANKS TO YOUR FANS!!!!!!!
DOWNLOADING DOESN'T AFFECT PEOPLE WANTING TO WATCH MOVIES ON A BIG SCREEN OR PAY HUNDREDS TO SEE THEIR FAVORITE PERFORMERS LIVE!!! IT SIMPLY ALLOWS US TO ENJOY THESE ARTS IN THE PRIVACY OF OUR HOMES WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY $20 FOR A FUCKING CD THAT ONLY HAS ONE GOOD SONG ON IT THAT WE WANT TO HEAR!!!!! ENTERTAINERS THAT SUPPORT THIS LAW ARE DOING NOTHING BUT TELLING THEIR FANS, "FUCK YOU GUYS, I ONLY MADE $20 MILLION LAST YEAR WHEN I SHOULD HAVE MADE $21.5 MILLION. HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE REST OF THE YEAR NOW?"
So congratulations to Sen. Smith, for coming up with the most greedy, job killing, revenue losing, internet destroying piece of shit bill I have ever heard of being proposed to our U.S. Senate. Two thumbs up asshole!!!!!!!!!!!
