How much money do you spend on the jeans that you wear everyday? What about the headphones you use for your Ipod or MP3 player? I know that, for me, I don't like to spend any more than $60 on jeans, and that's really pushing my limit. As for headphones, I'm perfectly happy with a cheap pair that cost $10-$20. Now, I am probably the last person to ask about anything related to popular fashion, nor am I in any way, shape, or form an expert on the quality of musical devices like headphones. However, I came across some information today that absolutely disgusted me. I may of even thrown up in my mouth a little. haha.
The cause of my nausea, came when I found out what my boss bought their 17 year old son this past Christmas. Before I reveal to you exactly what the gifts were, keep in mind that my boss is the type of person who is constantly preaching to people(mainly me) about how much money they're wasting on whatever "stupid items" they buy or whatever fun activities or events they want to attend. For instance, he's been telling how stupid I am for almost a year now, because I spent $100 on a Metallica concert ticket(which was to the history making Big 4 show in So. Cal. A show that any rock fan would have wanted to attend), because he doesn't understand how people would rather see a live show, than just listen to the better sound quality of a CD in the comfort of their own car. So pretty much, anything that he doesn't like or condone is a waste of money.
Now, if you're an intelligent person like myself, you may want to brace yourself, and if you happen to be standing, sit down, preferably with a bucket nearby. He bought his son a pair of True Religion jeans, and a pair of Beats by Dre headphones. For those of you who are as inept as I am when it comes to knowledge on today's popular brands, then you may not yet know the extent of my boss' hypocritical comments. The jeans, cost an outrages amount of $395, and the headphones at $299. Yeah, that's not a typo. He spent $700 on 2 fucking things. Makes you sick to your stomach doesn't it?
The headphones, I can sort of understand needing an expensive pair like the beats by dre for a professional in the music business, like a producer or DJ, but there is no reason a 17 year old, spoiled little brat, needs $300 headphones so he can listen to his stupid ass DubbStep music off his Phone. Although the price of these headphones are outrageous, they're use in the professional music industry makes the price easy to overlook in regards that industry, not for personal use. This is not the real cause of my anger, or my disappointment in how certain people in this country prioritize their needs and wants.
I would really like to know how any person in their right mind, can find a way to justify the purchasing of a $400 pair of jeans. That is absolutely mind boggling to me. I can tell you with utmost certainty, that not only would I never in my life buy something so outrageously overpriced, but if someone were to even buy me a pair as a gift, I would not accept them, and would not be shy in asking them "Are you out of your fucking mind!? Four hundred dollars?" which I would of course follow up with a long, badgering rant on how stupid they were for even stepping foot within 20 ft of the rack they were hanging on. I don't care if these were some kind of magical jeans that could never get dirty, and gave you the ability to fly and turn invisible, I would not be caught dead wearing jeans that cost more than what I bought my laptop for.
On top of the bankruptcy causing price, the jeans don't even look good, on a guy at least. They look like a pair of skinny girl jeans. What does it tell you about our country, when people have become so vain and desperate for attention and envy of others, that they will pay an unprecedented amount of money for an article of clothing that looks like shit, just so they can show off the price tag. I don't envy these people, nor do I base my friendships around people based on the price of their clothes. These people need to wake up, and truly think about just how stupid and fiscally irresponsible it is to waste $350(I say $350 because that's how much less I would have spent), ON A PAIR OF GODDAMN PANTS!!!!!! THEY ARE JUST PANTS YOU MORONS!!!!!! TRY GOING TO MARSHALL'S LIKE A NORMAL FUCKING PERSON AND GET A PAIR OF NORMAL FUCKING PANTS!!!!!
Sorry, I wasn't planning on breaking into the caps and exclamations today, haha, but this subject just pissed me off royally today, and I couldn't help myself. haha. Let me know what your thoughts subject, and answer me this: Can you in any way, provide a valid argument defending the purchase of a pair of $400 blue jeans? If you can, I'd really like to hear it, because as it sits right now, I cannot even fathom the possibility of a reasonable argument anybody could make that could make me understand.
That sounds a little over the top for me. Anyways for me buying nice things brings me happiness of course, being able to buy what I want even more so, but for me that happiness comes from knowing I worked hard for my money. From a girls point of view buying or owning something pretty like a dress ( by the way there is this Guess dress at my work, I want it so bad. I just know it would look amazing. It's $128. Now am I going to buy it. No. Unless it's on sale) makes you feel beautiful. I believe in buying things to help your confidence is fine as long as it's within your means. As the saying goes and this may not apply to all, but again from a girls point of view. You look good, you feel good. And to be a woman with confidance like myself, it requires some time and money. But if you can look in the mirror at the end of the day and feel joy and not stress about the purchase you made than shop on. And also in my opinion there is nothing stuipd or wasteful about Metallica. So really Rock on!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very good point Bri, but not the idea I was aiming disgust at. So the fault is my posting title, not your comment. Items like a dress, as you stated, are one of the many exceptions to expensive personal possessions. A dress is something that women can wear to formal events, or out to a bar, and add elegance and beauty to their figure(Some of their figures. lol). Diamonds, or other types of jewelry are another exception, as diamonds and gold are rare commodities in the world, so of course, they are not cheap. But these are a pair of blue jeans we are talking about. The same type of pants you can get for $20 at wal-mart or Target, and are everyday articles of clothing. Dresses are generally for special events, and, correct me if I'm wrong, are not usually worn on a daily basis. So while your point is understood in regards to the response of my title question, It does not provide me with any logical validation or justification for purchasing $400 blue jeans. If you haven't seen what these things look like, check them out online. Absolutely hideous and completely unappealing. Wouldn't buy them if they were $5 a pair.
ReplyDeleteI've literally never spent any more than $30 on jeans. Ever. More often I'm spending $15-20. Headphones? The cheaper the better. Even if I was rich, I would probably still be very frugal. There are only certain things that you should spend a lot of money on.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tayler. You are obviously a person who uses your brain. I could purchase an entire wardrobe of clothes with $400 dollars. Clothes that would fit in fine with whatever him fashion trend that happens to be popular that week. In regards to blue jeans, I could buy nearly 16 pairs of durable, better looking blue jeans, in all different styles and shades, wearing a different pair every day for half the month, whereas my boss' son plays out his ugly, skinny girl style, $400 dollar ugly piece of shit jeans by wearing them almost every time he goes out in public(along with the Beats headphones hanging around his neck like he's a fucking DJ or something), making sure everybody sees the True Religion label. I'm surprised he didn't just leave the price tag dangling from both items, then everybody would be able to tell how cool he is. HAHA. Fucking spoiled rich kids just piss me off.
